DetectElast Elastomers

DetectElast FDA Approved
DetectElast FDA Approved Seals and Gaskets

If you are involved in production or production equipment for the Food, Beverage or Pharma/Bio & Life Science Industries you will be acutely aware of the necessary Health & Safety legislation that governs the use of Seals, Gaskets, O Rings, and similar items.

Certifications – EU1935: 2004, FDA 21 and NSF / ANSI 51

EMI Seals & Gaskets Ltd offer a wide range of sealing products that are certified to meet these requirements including EU1935: 2004 and FDA 21 CFR part 177 Section 2600 Allowable Substances. We also have our own NSF / ANSI 51 certification for Seals and Gaskets that come into direct contact with food on equipment and follow the HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) principles and application guidelines.

So, to compliment our NSF / ANSI 51 certified materials, EMI have also developed a range of Metal Detectable Food Safe Rubber materials under the name of DetectElast.

DetectElast Elastomers:

DetectElast is EMI Seals and Gaskets range of Metal Detectable and X-Ray Inspectable elastomer and plastic products that can be Moulded, Extruded, and Fabricated to provide an extensive range of products especially made for industries where the smallest crumb or slither of rubber or plastic from a Seal, Gasket, Belt or Buffer simply cannot be allowed to enter the final product in the form of contamination.

Having worked alongside Companies like Graseby and later Graseby Goring Kerr helping to develop check weighers like the DSP1 and DSP2 with their then unique IP69K Fully shielded Seals and Gaskets, who better understand and develop the best solutions to meet today’s demanding legislation.

Use of DetectElast Elastomers:

From a simple O Ring to an Inflatable Hermetic Seal, it makes no difference, it has to be right, it has to be safe and it has to work the first time, every time. Any seal installed on Food, Beverage, and Pharmaceutical processing equipment has to meet demanding criteria in a demanding environment, and even with the best engineers’ Seals and Gaskets can still be damaged during installation or can wear during their installation lifetime potentially resulting in the shearing off of rubber or plastic fragments which can subsequently lead to contamination of the product.

Additionally, the chemicals used in CIP (Cleaning in Place) and SIP (Steaming or Sterilisation in Place) can also cause the degradation of rubber and plastic components. If this degradation occurs, there is the additional risk of fragments migrating through the system and into the product. This is why we have developed an extensive range of products that meet the physical and chemical demands of these industries.

Some of these products are industry standards, RJT O Rings, Quad-Rings, Tri-Clamps, I-Line Seals, Bevel Seats, John R Perry Seals, Q-Line Seals, HyClamp Sanitary GasketsIDF SealsDIN11851 D-Seals and DIN/ANSI Flange Gaskets but with our industry knowledge, extensive compound and material range and our manufacturing expertise we have developed a host of other bespoke products.

EMI Compound Designation and Material Guide:

DetectElast compounds are free from animal-derived ingredients (ADI-free) and conform to EU regulations EC1935/2004 and EC2023/2006, they are impregnated with FDA-approved Metallic Ferrite Powder that has been specifically developed to advance the capabilities for detecting contamination and foreign material in the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical Industries. There are five main elastomer materials in our current range but we can produce other base materials like H-NBR or Neoprene. Within these materials, we can offer a variety of different characteristics, like High or Low temperature, high tear strength, and in a wide range of hardness.

So, in order to compliment these elastomers, we also have a range of plastic compound materials that can be moulded, machined, and fabricated to produce a range of Wear strips, guide rails, chain guides, rollers, bushes, scrapers, idler wheels, bearings, liners and a plethora of other parts.
